For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of the foolish. Live as free men and women, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. 1 Peter 2:15,16
Doing Unchristian
– Devotions in the Letters from Peter
What a strong and beautiful name – Christian. It’s a special name given by Jesus to those who follow Christ. It’s a name that conjures visions of righteous doing – like mother, or teacher, or saint. These beautiful names are derived from the activity they describe.
“Soldier” is a strong name… similar to “defender,” “guardian,” or “protector,” which seem beautifuls on the surface. But a soldier can be used for righteousness or wickedness. So can the Christian name.
Think about it. How many throughout history have cloaked with the title Christian before attacking… taking the offensive position… killing?
We needn’t kill to offend the Christian name. We need only do unchristian.
Invitation to pray: Jesus Christ, I wrap myself in your name. I want to do Christian in your name. Help me not wear your name in vain. Amen.
