The End of All Things

The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:7-11

The End of All Things

– Devotions in the Letters from Peter

I read this and thought, “Man, look how far off that statement is!  Here it’s been some 2000 years and the world is still going strong.”  Then I was reminded that the end is always near, especially our own.

But the end may just be the end of what we’re used to.  The end may be something as simple as change, as in, “We don’t do it that way anymore.”  The end may be the end of our wandering, and the beginning of our following.  It may be the end of just being, and the beginning of doing Christian.

What’s important as the end ends, and the beginning begins?

Prayer.

How do we pray?

Pray with a clear mind and with self-control.

What’s the ultimate goal?

Deep love for everyone, for your love and the love of others covers a multitude of sins.

How do we get there?

Give hospitality joyfully.

Serve one another faithfully by administering God’s grace.

Edify as though your words are God’s word.

And in all things, let Love motivate you to the praise of God.

Bring to an end just being Christian.  Do Christian.

Invitation to pray: The end of all things, Lord.  The end of all things?  What shall be the end of all things for me?  I entrust to you the end of all my things.  I trust you in life.  I trust you at the end of my life.  Life is a gift from you.  Bless me to live it Christian.  Amen.
