But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and God’s righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (KJV, Matthew 6:33)
It is evident on the faces of more than a few folks. It is evident that people are busy, but are they productive? Yes, people are busy, but are they living as if they are blessed? Certainly people are busy, but do they know a peace that surpasses understanding? By the looks on their faces, I’d be surprised if many said, “Yes.”
Our economic situation has left some folks feeling “stuck in a job” they don’t like. Others are feeling the burden to work more hours in a week for the same salary since raises and bonuses have been cut from the bottom line budget. Still more have had to relocate to new jobs since the one they ended last year with is no longer available.
When living as lemmings frantic to not fail financially or fall short of familial expectations, we can burrow under the weight of our personal world, forgetting to seek first the Great Morning Star, the Alpha & Omega, the perfecter of our faith:
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (NIV, Hebrews 12:2)
For those who feel that they have no choice but to keep doing what the boss demands, they have limited their options to the human condition, failing to remember to look to the hills when wallowing in the valley of challenge:
Psalm 121- A song of ascents:
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
Isn’t it time to invest in what matters?
The TALENT CHALLENGE of Imago Dei MCC isn’t a gimmick. It is an opportunity for each person who dares to live a life with more hope, peace, joy, and love. This chance provided by the Board of Directors is a chance for you to take a step back from the cattle-call push to produce according to the demands of some person; and seek first God’s Loving Righteousness.
It is an occasion to look to the one who loved you into life and say, “God, what talents, skills, and gifts did you give me that I shelved because others told me I couldn’t or shouldn’t use it? God, how can I bring you into my daily life rather than just on Sunday? God, I wish to seek you first." No more hiding our inner light or burying our talents, for each of us has the power of God within us to live a life investing in what matters.
May you begin to do so today!
